Working-Class Values.
Proven Results.

Salaam Bhatti has fought for years to change the lives of tens of thousands of Virginians and millions of Americans. Now, he's taking that fight to Congress.

Meet Salaam Bhatti

Husband.

Father of two boys.

Lifelong fighter for working families.

Born to immigrants and raised on Mister Rogers, Sesame Street, WIC and free school meals, Salaam knows firsthand how vital community and public service are. From delivering Meals on Wheels with his mom to fighting for basic needs across Virginia, Salaam has spent his life fighting to make government work for the people who need it most.

At the Virginia Poverty Law Center, Salaam:

  • Led the fight to expand SNAP food assistance to 25,000+ working families - uniting Democrats and Republicans who voted unanimously for it.

  • Expanded free school meals for thousands of kids across the Commonwealth.

  • Built a tool with 18F that’s helped over 1 million people unlock tens of million of dollars in benefits nationwide.

As a public interest lawyer, Salaam doesn’t make dollars — he makes change. He’s gone before Congress and federal agencies to protect SNAP and taught thousands of people about issues and how to advocate for themselves.

Now, he’s running for Congress in Virginia’s 1st District to keep fighting for the working class and make life affordable, invest in infrastructure, and use tech to make government actually work for the people. While Trump and Congress are gutting basic needs programs, Salaam is the experienced fighter the District needs in Congress.

No corporate money.

Just people power.

Because you can’t spell USA without US.
